KM in context : sense-making and connectedness
And thanks to email and RSS you can subscribe to these digestable fragments as they happen. This relates to a quote from Andrew Gent : "If you see the goal of college being to get a job (your ROI), then there really is no need for English, history, languages, or even science — depending upon your target profession. A little while ago I posted on how Communities of Practice (CoPs) can act as a sense-making model for KM . Here’s a direct link to the model .

  • Ten Reasons Why "Enterprise RSS" Has Failed To Become Mainstream
There are a host of reasons why Enterprise RSS has not taken off yet (vs. The first concept to understand is that the key focus point for Enterprise RSS is not the reader - it's the feed syndication platform (the server back-end) that provides centralized administration, feed management and other services (e.g., Intranet web site owners have not made their sites "RSS friendly" The article below is interesting in that it does call out a dark truth - enterprise adoption of feed syndication tools has been lacking. However, However, the article disappoints because it gives

  • Culture Trumps ROI « Together, We Can!
rarr; Culture Trumps ROI October 20, 2008 · 8 Comments Talk about signs of the times!  Lately, there’s been a rapidly growing number of posts declaring the need to demonstrate return on investment (ROI) in social software, but lamenting our inability to do so.  My take on ROI of social software is pretty much along the lines of Jon Mell’s and Gia Lyons’ — don’t bother!  Together, We Can! • Lee Bryant on Enterprise RSS and Independent Consultants with Short Attention Spans
I recently met a CIO of a very large company that told me that he’s sick and tired of ‘fresh’ independent gurus telling him that he needs tools like Twitter to run his business and that things like RSS are ‘dead’. Lee also very eloquently and insightfully highlights the current state of enterprise RSS adoption, noting that it’s still motoring up the adoption curve and we’re a long way off seeing it’s wide spread ROI being realized across the corporate world. Lee Bryant, of Headshift fame, just put out a post lambasting the trend of independent consultants announcing certain technologies are dead just because they happen to have found something shinier.

My colleague Penny Edwards has a nice post @ Headshift on measurement and social software , which reopens in a smart way the conversation about return on investment (ROI) we had months ago with Luis Suarez, Dennis Howlett, Jon Husband and others.
