Social search, Help engines, and Sense-making
Social search is resurfacing as a hot topic of late , due to how effective Twitter has become in helping you find information, and how it is close to how we source information in the offline world (via our network). by connecting you to a social network of people you trust who will be willing to help out in a reciprocal relationship
(which Twitter is being differentiated by being called a “ Help Engine “.
I think it’s getting us closer to the KM productivity (sense-making) aim that knowledge sharing and knowledge transfer has always aspired to,

How relevant are communities of practice in a network age?
A while back I blogged about the possibility of networks and blogospheres cutting into the need for communities. I’m not refering to teams using CoP-like social software, like Basecamp as a group space to coordinate and communicate tasks/project.
Just look at Friendfeed, it’s a network, but you can also join rooms (member groups); some are feedback rooms, news rooms, topic rooms…people still like hanging out in a place (pub/coffee shop) I believe this is happening a great deal, as now people may have a more purposeful or ideal way of achieving their

KMWorld.com: : Enterprise social Software technology
Enterprise social Software technology
By Tony Byrne -
Posted Aug 31, 2008
While agreement around the core concepts of "social software" has remained elusive, the underlying phenomenon is quite real. To date, industry analysts have quite properly focused on the cultural and organizational aspects of social software technologies (blogs, wikis, tag clouds and such) in the enterprise. "The The sociology is more important than the technology," you often hear, and I couldn’t agree more. But the technology still matters,

Conversation Learning
for Learning Professionals is how social networks impact personal learning. In Value from Social Media , I talked about the issue of finding information via Google / Search vs. seeking conversation: Let’s consider a simple scenario - I’m trying to decide if a particular solution makes sense for my company / organization. One of the questions being raised this week in the free, online course Work Literacy: Web 2.0 To me, this is a critical part of The New Skills for knowledge workers.

Networks and Communities
Mercenary Rationale for Network Work & Learning As I discussed in Evaluating Performance of Concept Workers , evaluating the performance of a concept worker is difficult because there's no right answer and most often the evaluator knows less about the subject than the worker. Limits of Search In Value from Social Media , I looked at a scenario where I'm evaluating a particular solution for my company / organization. Thus, the bottom line in evaluating a concept workers performance is by looking at: Was a reasonable process used? Are the conclusions reasonable?

The emergence of Serendipity 2.0 and Innovation 2.0
Then you have a military type invention like the internet which just can’t help breeding more invention, that’s the thing when you invent a tool that actually allows you to invent more tools…I don’t think we imagined e-commerce, blogging, social networking, wikis, etc…
where all can participate, interact and network.
In the past many discoveries and innovations have come by accident or by chance, rather than a team hurting their heads with too much innovation think, “no matter how much I try I just can’t think of an innovation”.

New KM Links
From among the current set of links, I think one of the most interesting is " Employee Social Networking at Sabre ," which highlights Toby Ward's case study on Sabre's unique employee networking system and how it is benefiting the organization.
As always, if you come across a resource you'd like to share with our audience, please feel free to post the link in the comments section or send me an e-mail at links@kmedge.org .
