What I've Been Up To: Some Social Media Training Resources
For the past few months, I've definitely been blogging less, in part because I've been doing training on social media for several clients. Introduction to Social Media --This webinar and wiki resource page gives an overview of key social media tools and how they are being used in workforce development and with young people, especially around school and careers. Creating a Social Media Listening Dashboard --Webinar and I thought it made sense to share some of what I've been working on, so here are some links.

  • Open source blogs and wikis, Words of Wisdom, Leadership Principles, 800 Pound Gorilla, Introduction to social network methods
Open source wiki: MediaWiki - same application used by the State Department for their eDiplomacy site. MediaWiki still requires users to learn wiki markup to author content. It has three fundamental components: A repository for Weekly Knowledge Management Blog by Stan Garfield KM Question, Thought Leader, Blog, Link, and Book of the Week [ Blogroll - KM Home Page - Send a Question - Implementing a successful KM programme ] KM Question of the Week Q: Giora Hadar (in multiple forums): I need your help identifying free, open source blogs and wikis that could be installed within an intranet. • LMS and Social Learning
As a follow on to the discussion of social learning and formal learning in Long Live … great post by BJ Schone - Have LMSs Jumped The Shark? I constantly hear people (across many organizations) complain about their learning management system (LMS). Did I miss anything?) We’ve recently seen LMSs shift to include more functionality, such as wikis, blogs, social networking, etc. They complain that their LMS has a terrible interface that is nearly unusable. Upgrades are difficult and cumbersome.

  • Plenty of Open Source choices for the enterprise
However other than Elgg , a social networking platform, the rest of the social software winners are the typical list of suspects for blogging and wikis, e.g. Wordpress and Mediawiki . As a side note, personally I wouldn't automatically pick Mediawiki as the best option for your organisation without understanding some of your key requirements - e.g Browsing through InfoWorld's list of the best open source (and freeware) software for 2008 , I naturally zeroed in on the list of collaboration tools. the technical platform you want to run it on, security needs,
