Government 2.0: early examples of social networking at work
8220;Social networking provides governments with a new paradigm: knowledge release rather than knowledge control. approach can harness government knowledge to improve results.” Government 2.0 — enabled through social networking tools — provides benefits such as reduced cost of engagement through more productive tools and processes, simplified knowledge creation and retention though usable applications, easier knowledge sharing, and In the 1990s onward, we heard plenty of discussion around “eGovernment,” and how it would put elected officials and public administrators in touch with their constituencies.

The problem of incentives in knowledge work
I’m struggling with the issue of incentives in organizations trying to promote improved knowledge management and more effective use of new collaboration tools such as blogs, wikis, and the like. Behind the talk is the assumption that we can treat knowledge workers as rational economic actors and that the proper incentives will produce the desired behaviors.

Invariably, after an early spurt of activity and experimentation with the new systems, usage plateaus and talk turns to devising incentive systems to promote

Sense-making
The term personal knowledge management (PKM) isn’t about management in a business sense but rather how we can manage to make sense of information and experience in our electronic surround.
Knowledge – connecting information to experience (know what, know who, know how).
basic tool I’ve described for PKM is social bookmarking to file information. Personal – according to one’s abilities, interests & motivation (not directed by external forces).
Management – getting things done.

Q-tools: An approach for discovery and knowledge work
You can think of a question as a tool that you can use to increase your knowledge or reduce uncertainty. In fact, a question may be the most basic tool for gaining knowledge and working with information. tools
The What is information design? And in a world where, slowly but surely, everything is being translated into, and expressed as, information, how do you begin to think about organizing the massive amounts of information we’re generating every day?

Where Knowledge Management Has Been and Where It Is Going- Part Three
In this three part series I‘ve classified the evolving landscape of knowledge management into three categories. The first category is Leveraging Explicit Knowledge and is about capturing documented knowledge and building it into a collection - connecting people to content. The second category is about Leveraging Experiential Knowledge and it gave rise to communities of practice and reflection processes. It is primarily focused on connecting people to people. The third category is Leveraging Collective Knowledge and it is about integrating ideas from multiple

Where Knowledge Management Has Been and Where It Is Going- Part One
KM has changed in many ways since its beginning some fifteen years ago, with new tools and new strategies. But what is most interesting to me is the profound change in the way we conceptualize knowledge and the implications of that conceptualization for how we do our work as knowledge professionals. What I mean when I say, “how we conceptualize knowledge” are issues like, “Who in the organization has useful knowledge;” “How stable >is knowledge over time;” If the goal of KM is, as I believe it to be, to make use of the collective knowledge in an organization – then we have been learning how to do KM since early in the 90’s.

Tool Set 2009
I thought I'd kick off this year by posting a series of posts on topics related to tools and methods for work and learning. I'm hoping to address questions such as: How do you create a personal tool set or Personal Learning Environment (PLE) for yourself? What should be in your tool set? What are the most important methods to adopt in addition to the tools? Should twitter be part of your tool set? The information in this series has been something I've been presenting, writing, blogging about and more recently doing workshops around.

The Future of Enterprise Computing and Collaboration by Alan Cohen
In the recent past, you would remember I have been putting together a number of different blog posts on various video interviews that John Chambers , CEO of Cisco Systems , has been doing at several events where he has been sharing some further insights on the future of collaboration, knowledge sharing and, specially, Enterprise 2.0 where our work spaces are defined by who we are and how we get connected regardless of the place and the time; where we, knowledge workers, get to define and establish our own "offices" no matter our location or environment to carry out our own tasks.

Blogging practices of knowledge workers
She writes about knowledge management and personal knowledge management and blogging, some of my favorite topics. She asked me to have a look at the chapter that summarizes the blogging practices of knowledge workers, particularly looking at the questions she had about these practices going into her research. She interviewed a number of people who blog publicly in the broad knowledge management space, and she spent several of months embedded in I had the great pleasure of previewing one of Lilia Efimova's papers - maybe her PhD proposal - about five years ago.
