KM is not just information delivery, and Just-in-Time is not enough
The point of this paper, called “Knowledge and Tragedy: or why we shouldn’t share knowledge” , is that sharing, even Just-in-Time sharing is not enough or a complete KM infrastructure, it’s the gap between knowing and acting that is often missing.
describing ideal information management, rather than knowledge management…see my post on informal IM vs KM for more on this.
My last post was a review of a paper by Patrick Lambe , and in this post I review yet another paper on the same topic.

Should Knowledge Workers Have Enterprise 2.0 Ratings?
Rating" for knowledge workers.
For example, an off-the-top-of-my-head list of productive activities using ESSPs includes authoring (on a blog, for example), editing (wikis), interacting with others (on discussion boards and Q&A forums), tagging online content, and uploading such content or pointing to it (using something like Digg). Imagine that an organization has deployed a full suite of emergent social software platforms (ESSPs) for its members— blogs, wikis, discussion / Q&A forums , upload facilities for photos and videos and etc., Digg

Should Knowledge Workers have E2.0 Ratings, Part 3
My previous two posts on measuring knowledge workers’ participation in Enterprise 2.0 Rather than trying to summarize this debate (which I’d do poorly), let me instead try to make it specific to the topic at hand: whether it would be a good idea to measure, using some kind of multidimensional scale, the contributions of knowledge workers to emergent social software platforms (ESSPs) as well as the popularity of these contributions. Many of the comments on my previous two posts pointed out problems with the approach I advocated, which was to measure each knowledge

Should Knowledge Workers have E2.0 Ratings, Part 2
ratings for knowledge workers . From Samuel : But doesn’t KM research show KPI’s hurt knowledge sharing? Ask employees to tell managers how the tools helped them or others become more productive.
I received a wealth of insightful comments in response to my earlier post on Enterprise 2.0 I

The fun of productivity measures
A few people mentioned Jonathan Spira's post on Defining Productivity for the Knowledge Age
Productivity is a term you may hear on a daily basis but have you ever stopped to consider its meaning, especially within the context of knowledge work and knowledge workers ? This kind commentary continues in various circles, whether it is knowledge management or project management or any other human activities. It probably isn’t what you think it is.
He defines the basic problem and promises more in upcoming writing.

Workplace Productivity
One of the favorite quotes I used to use during presentations was Drucker - The most important contribution of management in the 21st century will be to increase knowledge-worker productivity. This is a big reason that I started Work Literacy . I firmly believe that all management and workplace learning professionals need to be constantly looking at how we can improve the performance of knowledge workers. This is probably THE challenge of the 21st century. But about six months ago, I started not to use this quote. When I look at concept workers

You nailed me as a knowledge worker
Diversity of Output
Knowledge workers solve problems and generate outputs largely by resort to structures internal to themselves rather than by resort to external rules or procedures. In other words, each knowledge worker develops a different internal “configuration” based on changes wrought in their thinking and outlook by the situations they have encountered, the information they have absorbed and the particular way they have made sense of these. . .
On the Work Literacy blog Michele Martin posted on a paper written by Allison Kid. The thing I

Like my colleague Anthony Bradley, I also speak to a lot of IT departments worried about people wasting time on social networking sites like Facebook. First off, IT has no charter to concern themselves with an individual’s work productivity - either specifically or as a group Brian Prentice
