  • SocialText - The C.R.M Iceberg and Social Software
Greg Oxton from the Consortium for Service Innovation ( CSI ) shared with me a model for understanding how engaged enterprises really are: 1% of customer conversations are assimilated as organizational knowledge 9% of customer conversations touch the organization, but no learning occurs 90% of customer conversations never touch the organization This maps to a Donald Rumsfeldism , as a way of explaining intelligence, of all things. • What’s the difference between Intranet 2.0 and a social network with groups
Unless you can structure it yourself like Nathan Wallace did with a Confluence wiki…not sure if SocialText can achieve a similar thing, but I believe OpenText Social Media, Lotus Connections, Jive, Awareness, Traction, Telligent, Connectbeam, and more suites made of components rather than designed as an Intranet. This is taking us back to the true meaning of Intranet (via Matthew Hodgson), rather then the hijacked, vetted, static, one-to-many tool it became. “Essentially, he observed that people were creating small websites inside their organisations to share knowledge

  • Social search, Help engines, and Sense-making
I think it’s getting us closer to the KM productivity (sense-making) aim that knowledge sharing and knowledge transfer has always aspired to, which is: a big difference here is that in order to add people to your network they have to add you back (so this is closer to the friends idea, and is a big factor in building trust, reciprocal help, and having a similar level of understanding which helps with knowledge transfer) - Social search is resurfacing as a hot topic of late , due to how effective Twitter has become in helping you find information, and how it is close to how we source information in the offline world (via our network).

  • Is the Enterprise Ready for Microblogging Tools Like Twitter? - Mashable
Knowledge Management: Here’s where things get interesting. By analyzing conversations and watching the conversations of employees, senior managers can easily identify who these connectors are and then ensure these employees compensation and titles match their internal value AND start to add additional connectors if too much information is flowing through any one individual. Management, through the IT department will want to be able to restrict who can see certain posts. • Deja Vu at Legal IT Leadership Summit '08
This was my second time for this conference, and was a great chance to reconnect with old friends like Andy McAfee and Neil Araujo , and meet some new ones like Gordon Vala-Webb , Ben Kiker , and Doug Cornelius, whose KM Space blog I've added to my list of favorites. As Socialtext expands beyond its core wiki product into enterprise-level social networking , I'm particularly interested in the way tools like social networks and prediction markets complement more traditional "strong ties" collaboration models. I'm blogging belatedly about a conference I spoke at last week, the Legal IT Leadership Summit (LITLS), sponsored by Interwoven.
