The top-down and bottom-up creation of enterprise communities, and wikis
So far this post has been about community creation, but what I really wanted to focus is on the disadvantages of top-down creation of communities, wiki, blogs, etc… That is, what are we, the company, and knowledge workers missing out on by not being able to have the freedom to create these objects (bottom-up creation)?

Conference Wiki Examples
Someone asked me for an example of a conference using a Wiki both for organizers during planning, evaluating proposed sessions, etc. For planning this year, we relied on Google Docs and Google Spreadsheets as the primary tools. Likely the Wiki would be much better for something larger. and for attendees with session pages, participant lists, that kind of stuff. Certainly we did parts of this for Corporate Learning Trends 2007 .

Google Wave Due Soon; Early Apps Are Arriving Now
