Use Storytelling Techniques in Personal Branding: Plot
Sure, amazing things can happen in your plotline, but for the character to fit believably into those scenes, they have to be presented as someone who the audience could see responding to plot twists in the way they do. We see people communicating plot all the time through social networks: they’ll invite us to a party through Facebook and post the photos a few days later, perhaps pulling them in from a Flickr feed that presents photos from other story arcs (their daughter’s third birthday; their last art show opening, etc.). In my last post , we tossed around the idea that storytelling techniques might be applicable to personal branding, and we looked at one — characterization — that’s obviously key to a personal brand.

  • Meet a Presenter’s Nightmare (or Friend): The Backchannel
In his new book, “ The Backchannel: How Audiences Are Using Twitter and Social Media and Changing Presentations Forever ,” Cliff Atkinson provides an example of the effect that a Twitter-enabled backchannel (an online conversation between audience members) can have on a presentation. • Google v. Facebook? What We Learn from Twitter.
Last week I wrote a post in which I opined a bit about Facebook search. Facebook is way more than its newsfeed, and its search play is key to proving that value, and extending it....No doubt building Facebook search today is akin to building Google ten years ago - bigger, most likely, in terms of data, algorithmic, and platform challenges. In it I wrote: No

  • Facebook Shows "What's On It's Mind" - Twitter
An AP story today about changes coming to the Facebook service is quite interesting: Facebook: Taking a cue from Twitter in sharing? The popular online hangout Facebook is revamping its home page and plans other changes so its millions of users can more easily choose the types of information they see. Perhaps Perhaps Beginning next Wednesday, Facebook will also launch a redesigned home page that lets users receive continuous updates from their friends instead of every 10 or 15 minutes.... ...Facebook Facebook will also tweak its central feature, the status

  • The past, present, and future of location-based mobile social networking
Here is a very quick review of the past, present, and future of the space. The Present There Most of the major social networks, including Facebook, LinkedIn, and Bebo have launched mobile platforms, however at this point they do not give any notable additional functionality over accessing the networks from the fixed internet. Expect announcements soon, probably first from I have long believed that location-based mobile social networking is central to how technology will connect us. The advent of next generation phones including the iPhone combined with people’s familiarity

  • New Silverlight Client for Facebook: I Can’t Believe This is Facebook
Facebook is, more or less, something unpleasant that I tolerate. But with the gradual decline of that network (except among reality TV stars and bands, and reality TV bands), Facebook stands on its own and doesn’t fare nearly as well. Luckily, Facebook recently opened up its API to allow third-party developers more access to core features, which gives them a chance to rework the web app and deliver something a little easier on the eyes and potentially less frustrating. It used to have the advantage of at least comparing favorably to MySpace, which I find a user experience nightmare.
