Replace Your Browser Bookmarks With iCyte
Browser bookmarks left my online research workflow some time ago when I began to use Delicious, with occasional forays into using Xmarks . After signing up for an account and installing its Firefox add-on (a Google Chrome bookmarklet is due to launch soon), you are ready to start creating Cytes. The bulk of my research happens online, so I am always on the lookout for tools that will help me better capture, catalog and retrieve data. Lately, I’ve depended on Evernote ’s web clipping tools.

Master the Google Operands - Search Like a God & Save Time May. Does that put Google’s name choice into perspective? Google is said to be named after the number googol, i.e. It’s funny how back then they obviously didn’t care about the correct spelling, and today the verb google is found in many contemporary dictionaries. 30th, 2008 By Tina The internet, a network spanning the globe. Tips and Tricks: Making the Most of Google Reader
Although I’ve tried several feed readers, Google Reader is the only one I’ve used for more than a year. But, despite its simplicity, there are many ways for the average reader to customize their Google Reader experience. Change Google Reader to Suit Your Aesthetics
Not everyone will agree with my choice, but its simple and straightforward interface was probably the reason why I stayed with it for this long. Here are some examples:

Google has unveiled a slick way to create what they call “ bundles ” of RSS feeds. In order to create a bundle, you just have to login to your Google Reader account, click “ Browse for stuff ” and then click the “Create a bundle” button. Create RSS Feeds of Site Collections with Delicious

KeyHubs and Google Wave Are Looking Interesting
A few things that have popped up recently that have me excited to explore further: KeyHubs for Mapping Informal Networks Via a Delicious save from Beth Kanter , I found this article on mapping networks--an interesting read in itself. You could also use it to analyze your existing networks, see where there might be gaps in sharing and connection, then plan for and evaluate the success of some interventions to grow the network. Google Wave Although it won't be ready until later this year, Google Wave looks REALLY interesting. It led me to Keyhubs , which lets you map the informal networks that lie behind your formal org chart.

A Week Without Google
My daughter is taking a New Media Research studio class at NYU where (somewhat to my dismay), she's learning about using RSS and Delicious. At any rate, this week's assignment is a doozy-- A Week Without Google . That's right, no Google Search or Google Alerts, no Gmail or Google Talk, no Google Video, no
Google I'm dismayed because I would have taught her about these things for free, but you know college students. Parents are good for tuition, not for tutoring.

Microsoft vs Google in the Search Wars
Google didn't knock Alta Vista off the top by copying their business model. And that all said, I still wouldn't underestimate MS, Google isn't the only one who can create 'waves'** under cover I suspect the ol' Google vs Microsoft debate will rumble on for a few years yet. Google succeeded 'cos they managed to make the ads as unobtrusive as possible and came up with a great revenue concept (auction the search words) to get companies competing for what little ad space there is. Stop the clocks, blogging has recommenced :-) Couple of cheat posts coming up, starting with this one, which are really reproductions of comments I've left on other posts but with added juice.
