Socializing
can be socialized by the addition of social tools, but the design centers for these platforms remains unchanged (SharePoint, even SP10, remains designed around content management.) Social computing. As I like to say, if it's a network, you can draw it (or imagine it drawn), showing individual people and their connections. Social network analysis comprises a set of methods and tools for collecting information about the graph of a social network and displaying that information visually and quantitatively. Social analytics. I recently tweeted an observation of David Weinberger' s on how our language has shifted: Over the past decade, we’ve gone from talking about social circles to social networks.

Analyse and Act on Social Media Trends
As serendipity would have it, just such a solution cropped up via Google Reader, thanks to Mark Miller ( @eusp ) over on his End User SharePoint site. Microsoft has a proof of concept built on SharePoint - Looking Glass (must stress: It's a proof of concept (PoC), no mention of an actual working solution yet and Microsoft PoCs often have a dash of smoke and mirrors about them): But wafting the smoke aside and stepping around the mirrors, the concept is sound. How to monitor social media conversations, identify trends and act on them came up in a conversation yesterday regarding the role of internal communications managers.

NewsGator Acquires Tomoye
Tomoye has also been one of the vendors placing bets on SharePoint (as has NewsGator) so the deal is synergistic in that regard. Often, Social Sites has been viewed as an effective (tactical) "bridging" solution available to organizations in anticipation of the next release of SharePoint. Social Sites extends SharePoint by enabling "Facebook"-like features with an emphasis on communities (an area that Microsoft has only begun to understand and focus on NewsGator today announced that it will acquire Tomoye, a vendor that has long focused on enabling collaborative communities within the enterprise.

2009: Planning Considerations For Enterprise 2.0
SharePoint Next": Call, Raise Or Fold
Microsoft Office SharePoint 2007 (MOSS) is a disappointing platform for social computing in my opinion. Still, many organizations are deploying SharePoint for many valid reasons unrelated to E2.0 NewsGator) to augment what SharePoint has in terms of E2.0 Rather than list off a "top ten" list of predictions for 2009, I thought I would briefly layout some topics and areas that business and IT decision-makers should pay attention to when formulating Enterprise 2.0 plans:

They evaluated nine vendors, concluding that Jive Software and Telligent Systems "lead

Internet Evolution - The Big Report - Can Enterprise Social Networking Pay Off?
TransUnions Socialtext platform co-exists with Microsoft SharePoint, which has some of the same wiki and networking tools. Parkinson draws the line this way: If an activity is part of a formal process, the collaboration should happen in SharePoint. In bringing on a new customer, for example, many formal steps are involved, and SharePoint has workflow tools that allow for collaboration while making sure the necessary hand-offs happen and the process is completed. Ten Reasons Why "Enterprise RSS" Has Failed To Become Mainstream
Kinda "way out", there's also an interesting potential touch point between feed syndication platforms, analytics, alert/notification and complex event processing.
Attensa and KnowNow (gone under) but NewsGator has a consumer angle, a widget play, a community/social networking extension for SharePoint in addition to its feed syndication platform). The article below is interesting in that it does call out a dark truth - enterprise adoption of feed syndication tools has been lacking. However, However, the article disappoints because it gives too much credit to feed readers as the
