Social CRM and disrupting analyst business models
As a recent entrant to the market (the firm was founded in July 2008 by Charlene Li and now has 7 partners), Altimeter has the flexibility to use different approaches to the existing large firms. Social CRM: The New Rules of Relationship Management View more documents from Jeremiah Owyang . While it is certainly a high-value report, it is clearly no substitute for detailed and context-specific advice on implementation. I recently had a chat with R "Ray" Wang of Altimeter Group about what we're up to and our respective business models. Among other things, Ray

OfficeDrop Incorporates Contextual Files Into Freshbooks Invoices
How many times have you sent an invoice to a client, and then they ask for more details or supporting documents to detail your work for them? Now tying specific files to your invoices can be a cinch with OfficeDrop (formerly called Pixily, which we covered in 2008 ) and the application’s new integration with Freshbooks , the online accounting solution. OfficeDrop is a paper and document management application. You can manage your files (both scanned paper documents and digital files)  by document or by folder, but as OfficeDrop uses text-searchable PDFs it also becomes a “search engine for paper.”

  • Who Owns Your Online Documents?
Between the ability to access your documents anywhere, the easy sharing, and the automatic backups, I know more and more people who are using these services. As a starting point, I looked at the terms for three of the major alternatives in the online document space: Google Docs, Zoho , and Adobe’s new Acrobat.com service. Deleted documents may remain on Google’s servers for up to three weeks. Zoho With online office applications improving in quality all the time, they’re rapidly becoming the tool of choice for web workers. But in this rush to

  • Online Storage Feature-by-Feature Comparison Chart
All of these services offer some form of security and privacy with uploaded files, along with, in most cases, the ability to share and/or collaborate on documents.) All of the services listed above have appeared on Lifehacker at one point or another, too. Seems like every day a new online data storage service opens its servers to the world, practically begging users to eat up their bandwidth and store their data, or at least back it up, to "the cloud." We've noted, reviewed, and shared a good number of hacks for these services, many of which offer gigabytes of free storage.

  • 2008 2009
It's always interesting to look back at the past year - 2008, think about what has changed for me during the year, and think about what that means for the next year - 2009. My blog is really the hub of my thinking and activity, so by going back through posts for the 2008, it gives me a pretty good perspective on what's been happening inside my head during 2008. To do my review, I first looked for Learning Professionals Ten Predictions for eLearning 2008 Test SCORM Courses with an LMS Request for Proposal (RFP) Samples Training Method Trends Corporate Learning Long Tail and Attention Crisis SCORM Test Web 2.0

  • Deciding what content goes on intranet and what content goes on a Document Management System
Occasionally I get the urge to answer a question on LinkedIn ... Question: How do you decide what content goes on intranet and what content goes on a Document Management System. Is it an issue in your organization? My Answer: Ideally we wouldn't need to worry if content is part of the intranet, document management system or any other kind of information management system - storage, transformation and consumption of information would be separated so that ultimately information could be used where ever it is needed. However, the reality for most organisations today is that "enterprise content management is still something they are moving towards, which is where deciding where to store what becomes a challenge.

  • From Thought to Paper (or PDF): Online Document Production Workflows
One of the trickiest things to pull off when you’re working online is producing an actual document. Details like whether or not they want the document to be editable, the expected shelf life of the document, whether it’s a living document or not will all be crucial in helping you decide not only what, but how you’ll be producing. It seems easy enough, but make sure there are check-in points, with percentage completion targets, or specific draft numbers There are any number of distractions, it’s harder to provide proofs and get feedback than if you’re working face-to-face with a client or stakeholder, and you often get the run around in terms of who you should be working with.

  • TextFlow: Document Collaboration with Adobe Air
Tracking changes in a Word document is one way to get around this, but doing it that way, there’s really only one person working on one document at any given time. Start with a single Word document. Everyone can work on their copy of the document invidually, simultaneously. Sometimes, the way to maximize the value of teamwork is to have as little team, and as much work as possible. This is especially true when teams or partners are geographically distant from one another.
