Social CRM and disrupting analyst business models
As a recent entrant to the market (the firm was founded in July 2008 by Charlene Li and now has 7 partners), Altimeter has the flexibility to use different approaches to the existing large firms. I recently had a chat with R "Ray" Wang of Altimeter Group about what we're up to and our respective business models. Among other things, Ray said that Altimeter wants to work in new spaces that others aren't covering.

Trend map for 2010 and out to 2050
For the previous three trend maps (shown at the bottom) I collaborated with Richard and we co-branded them with Future Exploration Network, however time pressures this year meant that I haven't directly contributed to the 2010 map. 2008 Trend Map
For the last few years Richard Watson of NowandNext has created annual trend maps based on city subway maps. This year he has been more ambitious, creating a highly detailed map with five time zones, ranging from 2010-2015 out to 2035-2050.

Top 10 eLearning Predictions for 2010
Before I start with any of my actual predictions, let me throw in an overall prediction that the year is going to start off slow for most people, but by the end of the year, we will all be thinking: “Wow, 2010 was a crazy year!” When I say that, keep in mind that 90% of what workplace learning is all about will be basically unchanged this year. But when I do these predictions, I focus on the stuff that’s part of the bigger trends and the potential that these trends have for impacting workplace learning professionals especially around the impact that technology will have.

Community Input: SharePoint 2010
Burton Group research on enterprise social networking in 2008 found that organizations were tired of tool-by-tool approaches when it came to social tools (blogs, wikis, social networking). These dynamics favor a strong social computing comeback by Microsoft as SharePoint 2010 improves on its core collaboration tools but also delivers (based on current beta), social capabilities that, while not best-of-breed, are comparable to current market offerings.
